Lynda Carter Poster 1978

Lynda Carter, one of our era's most famous beauties, had the esteemed title of America's first Wonder Woman. The Wonder Woman television series premiered in 1975. I recall being astounded as a youngster by this incredible girl who lit up the screens with her charm, power, and natural charisma in conveying the actual spirit of the DC character Wonder Woman. Lynda Carter would go on to appear in numerous more films and television programs during the year, including a number in the horror/fantasy genre, but no part could equal her contribution to comic book enthusiasts' favorite early 1970s TV show. She most recently portrayed President Olivia Marsdin in the 2016 TV series Super Girl.

Lynda Carter was at the United Nations with fellow Wonder Woman Gal Gadot in 2016 when the fictitious character was named the U.N.'s "Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls."

Lynda Carter accompanied her look-alike daughter, Jessica Altman, to the Paley Center Honors Celebrating Women in Television event in 2017. Jessica, like her father, is an attorney, but she is also a superb vocalist who published her debut album in 2020.

Carter joined a local Arizona beauty pageant (which she won) in 1972 and went on to win Miss World USA, representing Arizona. She started appearing in TV series such as Starsky and Hutch, Cos, and Nakia, as well as in various "B-movies" after taking acting lessons at several New York acting schools. Carter's acting career took off when she was cast as Wonder Woman and her alter identity Diana Prince in The New Adventures of Wonder Woman. Her sincere performance won her admirers and critics alike, and the show lasted three seasons. She is the physical embodiment of the character, so much so that Carter is still intimately associated with Wonder Woman thirty years after originally taking on the role.
