This was a wonderful arc that pushed the Straw Hats closer to Alabasta. It was able to introduce a previously unknown race, as well as provide the Straw Hats the opportunity to take out certain members of Baroque Works. It's a strong but brief arc.

Before we get there, there's something we need know about the organization and presentation of One Piece's plot. I believe Syrup Village has weak henchmen for Zoro and company to face, not to mention Zoro is actually the only one doing battling against any non-jobber henchman at that stage since the gang is still tiny. However, Kuro is awesome, and I believe Usopp is good in that arc. It's not my favorite, but it's not one of the worst. It's certainly drawn out longer than necessary, but the first several mini-arcs in One Piece can get away with it since they're so brief. I believe we have too many arcs in which Luffy easily defeats his opponents, and Syrup Village is one of them, but that was a story point in Alabasta where everyone was confident Luffy would sweep the floor with Crocodile because he never loses, and then he gets wrecked, so I believe those moments are necessary.
