Marianne Lenoir (portrayed by Barbara Goodson in the English version and Virginie Ledieu in the French version) is an old friend and lover of Maestro Fu, from whom he was separated during World War II. Ella may finally reunite with him, but they opt to remain apart once Hawk Moth learns about their alliance. In "Backwarder," Hawk Moth, believing that Fu has forgotten about her, transforms her into Backwarder, a supervillain with a time-traveling theme capable of stealing the time of others by inverting their movement and sending them back in time.
It's Ayla's kwami, Marinette's inseparable best friend, who transforms her into Rena Rouge.
