When he discovers Hinata and Kageyama are absent, he asks Daichi about them and learns they have to remain behind at school as he leads the group to the gym. Later, he sits in the cafeteria with Daichi and discusses all of the third-years' decision not to retire and Nekoma's defeat during the Interhigh, revealing that Nekoma had played against the previous year's champion team on the second day and only made it to best eight in Tokyo. Though Daichi observes that they are still in a favorable position, Kuroo responds that if they do not go ahead, there is no purpose.
