Kenma finds Bokuto's straight shots flourishing in the game halfway through the first set. He devises a strategy for the Nekoma blockers to cut off cross shots in order to train Bokuto to shoot straight shots. Kenma is eventually placed in charge of bringing Lev back on track, which he dislikes but promptly chastises the middle blocker for continuing to make errors on things he had been constantly advised not to do. Kenma's strategy to restrict Bokuto is effective, as the Fukurdani ace starts to hit only straight strokes owing to his body's tendency of hitting straights, and the Fukurdani ace slips into one of his melancholy moods. It does not last long, however, as Akaashi is able to get Bokuto out of his slump and back into the game, ultimately winning the match.
Despite this, their friendship remained quite strong. In private, they would express their wish to be free of their family, claiming they had never liked them in the first place. Despite their conflicted sentiments about the choice, they both came to the conclusion that they are the same, therefore they completely understand each other's emotions. Hisoka's Past was first released on Twitter as an April Fools' joke. However, the project was eventually officially published. While not precisely official, Togashi said that he was a fan of Ishida's idea and expressed a desire to include it into his own tale eventually.
