Because chess is a strategic game, Cozy Glow's cutie mark on the rook piece might indicate that her specific ability is pitting ponies against one other while deceiving them into thinking she is their friend. It might also imply that she is tactically defensive and ready to put up a convincing front in order to entice ponies with her cloying sappiness. And, because the goal of chess is to capture the opponent's king by reading the player's strategies, she may have a talent for giving ponies what they want in order to get her means to an end. Or, as I previously stated, it could simply mean she enjoys playing chess. I might be reading too much into this, but it's still worth analyzing since she was the show's last big villain.
