Using visual references is not a kind of cheating; rather, it is the proper method to draw, and all artists use it. In truth, whether painting a figure from myth or history, even the great painters usually employed living models. âWow, Rembrandt, amazing picture, but is it Moses or Arnie from the tavern?â
28. Look to the paparazzi for ideas
Not all of your images have to seem like they were taken as part of a professional couple session. Abandon your customary position and work as a paparazzo, photographing a âunawareâ couple. Set your models apart and attempt to frame them with tree branches, shrubs, and little windows. Maintain emphasis on the models so that the foreground does not become overly distracting.
