The short follows a child called Pen (later renamed Finn) and a dog named Jake as they discover from Lady Rainicorn that the Ice King has abducted Princess Bubblegum in the hopes of marrying her. Pen and Jake set out for the Ice King's mountain stronghold, declaring it "Adventure Time." While Pen and the Ice King fight, Jake waits outside flirting with Lady Rainicorn, oblivious to the struggle. The Ice King utilizes his "frozen lightning bolts" to imprison Pen in a block of ice just as Pen seems to be getting the upper hand.
